The Youth of Jesus
Luke 2: 40, 46-52 (Full lesson, vs.
40-52)
40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.
46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.
47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.
48 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? Behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
49 And he said unto them, how is it that ye sought my Fathers business?
50 And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.
51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.
Golden Text. — “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man.” — Luke 2:52
The Lesson Story
These verses tell about the only perfect
boy that every lived. Jesus was that boy. He lived in Nazareth with his
parents. He was a real boy, such as you see every day. He grew in mind and
body. He played like other boys. He went to school and learned his lessons. He
helped his father, who was a carpenter. He was obedient to his parents. He was
filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him. When twelve years old he
went to Jerusalem to the Passover feast. He had not been to the temple since
his parents took him there in their arms and Simeon blessed him. When the time
came to return to Nazareth, his parents supposed that Jesus was with some other
people in the company. After traveling for a day, they found that he had been
left in Jerusalem. They turned back to find him. After three days they found
him in the temple listening to the teachers and asking them questions. His
Parents said, "Why do you treat us so? We have been looking for you with
sorrow." Jesus said, "Did you not know I must be about my Fathers
business?" He meant he must do the work that his Father in heaven had sent him
to do. Jesus then went home with his parents and lived in Nazareth for eighteen
years.

Are we more like Jesus growing,
Growing
in his grace and love;
All our words and actions showing
That we
serve the King above?
Can You Say—
“Tender Saviour, by whose
childhood
Every boy and girl is blest,
Help us love and serve and
trust thee;
Fold us to thy gentle breast.”
Hals Birthday
It was Hals birthday, and the
children were going to Aunties. There were some pencil marks on the wall
in Aunties dining room that meant much to the children. Ever since they
could remember she had measured them every birthday. Today Hal stood very
straight while Auntie marked his height; He said proudly, "All that since last
year, Auntie!" "Yes, so much nearer to being a man. But, Hal, there are other
ways you ought to grow." Hal looked sober. "I suppose I have learned
something," he said. "I have been promoted twice this year, and as to being
good and all that---well Ive tried." Auntie said, "I read this very
morning this verse which I want you to learn: And Jesus increased in
wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man."
