The Birth of Jesus
Luke 2: 10-16 (Full lesson, vs.
1-16)
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
[Golden Text. — “Unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord” — Luke 2:11]
The Lesson Story
At the beginning of this year you learned that after Adam and Eve had sinned God made them a promise that one day he would send a Saviour. He made the same promise afterward to Abraham and others. One day an angel came to a woman named Mary, and told her that she was to be the mother of this Saviour. Some time after this, God sent Mary and her husband, Joseph, to Bethlehem to have their names enrolled, for they belonged to the family of David. There were so many people in Bethlehem at this time that the houses were full and there was no room for them in the Inn; they could only find a place in the stable with the cattle. There Jesus was born. Some distance from this stable were shepherds taking care of their flocks. They heard an angel say, “Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” The angel said they would find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger. Then the sky was full of angels singing, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” The shepherds then went to Bethlehem and found Mary, and the babe lying in a manger, just as the angel had said.

What Made a Little Girl Glad
A rich nobleman, who did not believe in God or the Bible, once heard a little girl singing a sweet song about Jesus. He asked her, “Why do you sing?” She replied, “He is in heaven now.” He then asked, “How can he do anything for you if he is in heaven?” She replied, “He can do much for me; he comes to my heart and makes me happy.” “That is nonsense,” said the nobleman. “Oh, no, it is not nonsense; I know it is the truth and it makes me glad,” replied the girl. The nobleman turned away; but the little girl’s words had touched his heart and he soon found the Saviour. She had praised God and had told others the good news about Jesus.
